Our project managers "own" every phase of a job. At the site, our project managers have the skills and authority to make important decisions. As a result, you're fully informed during every phase of your project and can be confident of its outcome.

Project managers also are responsible for estimating. That doesn't mean they have to do it all themselves. Estimating is a team effort. We have an estimating team leader who solicits help from the area of expertise for the bidding project. Then the project manager who has special expertise in these areas estimates that part of the job. Sometimes two project managers do the take-off and compare notes. Sometimes six project managers share the bid preparation.

At KCI, we nurture and guide project engineers' careers. We hire degreed engineers and introduce them to every phase of the construction process. After all, we are training them to become project managers. They act as a liaison between the job's superintendent and manager. They work independently with the superintendent, but at the same time, they take direction from the project manager.

The KCI approach to construction relies on our project superintendents' ability to keep things moving. They handle every aspect of construction in the field -- job and subcontractor coordination, manpower and equipment allocation and scheduling. They work with the project managers and project engineers to coordinate the project.
